Welcome to Wemyss Castle Gardens
Restoration
By 1993 the 6 acre walled garden while in excellent structural condition had relapsed into a near wilderness, a home to ancient fruit trees geese and a few vegetables.
In 1994 a programme of restoration was started with the planting of hedges and installation of a new water supply.
By 1995 the first border had been created, 3 years later this had been extended to 8 borders and the idea for a pond; concrete garden seats were designed and cast and a number of statues repositioned.
Later as a millennium project a fine but collapsing pair of Italian wrought iron gates were rebuilt.
Since 2000 The planting has been consolidated with new schemes and combinations, a, to be pleached, Hornbeam Avenue planted and the pond with its fountain completed.
Evolution continues with each year a specific project taken to fruition. The photographs below give a little insight to the chronology of these improvements.
